Reilly honors memory of 9/11 tragedy with special ceremony

Leave it to the Philip Reilly Elementary Patriots to host a special flag ceremony in honor of Patriot Day. The Reilly community opened its doors to District, city and county officials and first responders to honor the memory of the 9/11 tragedy on Wednesday with a patriotic flag ceremony. CUSD Trustee Judy Bullockus and her husband, Ted, Mission Viejo Mayor Pro Tem Trish Kelley, OC Fire Authority Captain Drew Garcia, OC Sheriff Department Captain Christopher MacDonald, and Deputies Chris Chun, Nick Rickers and Ricardo Lopez were on hand to participate in the ceremony.

The event began with the presentation of the American flag by students in the Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts, Girls Scouts and American Heritage Girls clubs. Former Reilly teacher Joan Allen sang the National Anthem, and principal Sharla Pitzen spoke to the students about the significance of Patriot Day. The event concluded with a flyover from the OCSD helicopter.
