Marblehead students follow their passion at career day

Students at Marblehead Elementary were encouraged to dream big and explore future possibilities during an exciting and inspiring Career Day held on campus on May 23. This year’s theme, “Follow Your Passion,” empowered students to think about what excites them and how they can turn their interests into meaningful careers.

The day began with a high-energy keynote from motivational speaker Cousin Danny (Danny Batimana) whose dynamic presence set a powerful tone. As the founder of Happiness is NOW, Cousin Danny is a nationally recognized youth speaker who blends dance, storytelling, and uplifting messages to connect with students. A former choreographer for the Los Angeles Lakers and winner of America’s Best Dance Crew, he has spoken at over 600 schools nationwide. His message centered on joy, authenticity, and resilience, encouraging students to be true to themselves and to pursue what makes them happy. His contagious positivity and powerful personal story left a lasting impression on the Marblehead community.

What made this Career Day especially meaningful was the participation of Marblehead parents and family members, who generously shared their time and talents to introduce students to a variety of exciting professions. Students had the opportunity to hear from:

  • Jennifer Wilson, Saddleback Flower Shop, who shared the art and emotion behind floral design
  • Jeff DeGennaro, Custom Flavors Director of Regulatory and Operations, who explained how tastes are developed in the food and beverage industry
  • Tyler Piersant, car part designer at Energy Suspension, who discussed automotive innovation and engineering
  • Rosa Calderon and Guide Dogs of America, who demonstrated how service animals are trained and the lives they transform
  • Stacey Nelson, American Airlines Pilot, who described the skills and experiences that come with flying
  • Kate Rand, nurse, who offered insights into the dedication and care involved in healthcare
  • Chris Polanco, LA County firefighter, who spoke about teamwork, bravery, and the role of first responders
  • Deputy Joel Estrada, Orange County Sheriff’s Department, who highlighted the importance of public service and community safety
  • Stacy Loftus, Grant Thorton LLP Accountant, who discussed the value of financial literacy and career opportunities in finance

Adding to the day’s excitement, the Orange County Sheriff’s Department showcased their new four-seater off-road utility vehicle, capable of navigating beach terrain and rugged trails. Students were fascinated by the equipment used in real-world safety operations.

Career Day was organized by school counselor Lauren Peyton, whose efforts brought this enriching event to life. “Career Day at Marblehead Elementary is exciting, inspiring, and engaging,” said Ms. Peyton. “The students are thrilled to explore multiple areas of possible careers, and the presenters truly instilled the importance of following their passion and taking steps to fulfill their true goals in life.”

Career Day at Marblehead was more than an educational event, it was a celebration of community and inspiration. With the support of passionate parents and family members, and the incredible message from Cousin Danny, students left feeling motivated to explore, dream, and believe in what they can become.
