The Capistrano Unified School District Board of Trustees appointed Krista Castellanos to fill a vacancy in Trustee Area 5 at its special meeting on September 9, 2019. Castellanos replaces Trustee Gary Pritchard, who announced his resignation due to his relocation.
Castellanos has served as a public school teacher for over 20 years and also serves as a member of the CUSD PTSA. Castellanos looks forward to the opportunity to engage with parents, community stakeholders, and city officials in collaboration that serves all children. “It is important for us to work as a community to empower our students to become lifelong learners,” Castellanos said. “As we work together with a common vision, success will come for all students.”
The Board of Trustees chose to appoint a replacement for Trustee Area 5, saving the school district approximately $185,000 for the cost of a special election. The Trustee Area 5 seat will be up for re-election in November 2020.
“We are delighted to welcome Trustee-elect Castellanos to the CUSD Board of Trustees,” said Superintendent Kirsten Vital. “Ms. Castellanos is a tireless advocate for public school children and we look forward to her service on behalf of CUSD students.”
Castellanos took her Oath of Office and was publicly sworn in by her sister, Tara Ficek, at the September 18 Board of Trustee meeting.
