CUSD Announces New Student Advisor to the Board of Trustees

San Clemente High School incoming senior Genavieve Koenigshofer, co-founder of Inspire to Be, a community service club providing free tutoring for K-8 children, has been selected to serve as Student Advisor to the Capistrano Unified School District Board of Trustees for the 2019-2020 school year. Miss Koenigshofer will represent the voice of nearly 50,000 grade K-12 students during all regular and special meetings of the Board of Trustees.

“The Board is extremely pleased to welcome our newest Student Advisor,” said Board President Gila Jones. “Students such as Genavieve serve as an invaluable resource. Their perspective does so much to strengthen our organization, and ensures our unwavering commitment to student success.”

As co-founder of Inspire to Be, Miss Koenigshofer is responsible for mobilizing close to 100 teens in various community service projects, raising thousands of dollars in food and supplies for various nonprofit organizations, offers free tutoring at the San Clemente Public Library every Saturday during the school year, and helped construct a sensory garden for San Clemente High School students with special needs. She serves as a member of the A Cappella Advanced Women’s Chorus, as well as the San Clemente High School Link Crew, a student committee whose goal is to make all students feel welcome at San Clemente High School. Miss Koenigshofer served as a Student Representative at the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) Committee and is a member of the National Honor Society and the California Scholarship Foundation. In addition, Miss Koenigshofer has been recognized on the Principal’s and Superintendent’s Honor Roll since 2016, and has earned several Academic Achievement Awards since 2018.

“I am honored to have the responsibility of protecting my fellow scholars’ rights to a quality education,” said Koenigshofer. “I believe public education enables young people to rise above their station and fight for a better life, and thus is vital to the American Dream.”

The Student Advisor to the Board of Trustees serves a one year term and attends all meetings of the Board of Trustees except for closed sessions. Miss Koenigshofer’s first official meeting will be on August 21, 2019. She succeeds Tesoro High School graduate Mona Amirseyedian.
