Capistrano Unified Human Resource Services department welcomes new Executive Director

By Chelsea Turner

The Capistrano Unified School District Board of Trustees appointed Laura Lyon as executive director of human resource services/employee engagement at the Board of Trustees’ August 19 meeting.

“I am excited for the opportunity to serve our district’s dedicated teachers, administrators, and support staff in their ongoing professional learning aligned to our district goals and priorities,” said Ms. Lyon.

Ms. Lyon brings twenty-five years of teaching and school administration experience within the district to her new role. For the past 12 years, she has served with vision, care, empathy, and results, as principal at Castille Elementary School. In the area of professional learning for teachers, Ms. Lyon has led the adoption of science curriculum, STEM content, and served on the Sped Strategic Planning Team.

To ensure a smooth transition and reopening of school at Castille Elementary, Ms. Lyon will begin her new role in human resources effective September 1. She serves as Dr. David Stewart’s successor, who was recently appointed to the role of assistant superintendent of elementary school leadership and instruction.

“I look forward to joining an incredibly hard working team in human resource services and am eager to support, celebrate and communicate with all of our dedicated employees,” said Ms. Lyon.

During this time she has also served in multiple roles in support of human resources where she built strong relationships with employees from all bargaining units, including union leadership.

Ms. Lyon’s professional experiences and the strong relationships she has developed districtwide have prepared her for this role.
