Welcome Back Message from Superintendent Vital Brulte

Hello CUSD Families!

I am so excited to welcome you to the 2022-23 school year! Whether you are brand new to Capistrano Unified or you are returning for a new year, we are so thrilled to open our classrooms for another extraordinary year!

The first day of school is always one of my favorite days of the entire year! I never sleep as well – anticipating the first day. The pleasure of seeing friends and former teachers and staff, or beginning a new grade at a new school, wearing your favorite outfit or maybe something new, and being able to start fresh in a brand new year – these are some of my favorite things about the start of school.

I know there are also some students who are not as excited to end summer break and return to the classroom. Perhaps there is some anxiety about starting at a new school or having a new teacher. We’ve all had those feelings too and it is definitely ok to approach the new school year with some trepidation. We are all here to help!

No matter what, we want all of our students and families to know that we are committed to supporting the social, emotional, and academic success of every young person in our classrooms and on our campuses.

This year, we will be continuing the investments we made for our students in previous years through increased counseling and mental health support at school sites with the investments our Board of Trustees approved. Ultimately, our goal is for our students to be happy and healthy because that establishes the best foundation for academic success in school.

So as we open our doors for a new year of school, I want our students and our families to know that we are here for you. CUSD is a school district where everyone is welcome and everyone is valued. So whether you are excited to start school – or you wish you had a few more weeks of summer break – we are eager to see you and we wish you the very best school year ever! Happy 2022-23.
