Viejo students fundraise for donations to local senior citizens

Students at Viejo Elementary School have created a fun to give back to the Mission Viejo community. Like many elementary schools, the Vaqueros sell candy telegrams during Halloween and Christmas to raise money and spready some holiday cheer. Students can purchase the gifts for $1 each, the student council members attach personalized messages to the candy and hand deliver them to the classmates. Its a great way to have students be involved in fundraising and give a special treat to a friend.

The Viejo student council uses the money generated from the sales to purchase throw blankets and donate them to Ivy Park, an assisted living and memory care facility in Mission Viejo. The student council members go to Ivy Park with Ms. Victa, the school counselor, to give the blankets to the residents and spend some time visiting with their new friends. The students were surprised to learn this year that many of the residents come from places outside of Orange County- like Canada, Chili, Poland and India.
