School Lunch Hero Profile: Sheila Klatt

In celebration of National School Lunch Hero Day (May 5), CUSD Insider is showcasing profiles of some of the super food & nutrition services employees we have throughout the District.

Today, we are highlighting Sheila Klatt, Food and Nutrition Professional working in the Central Kitchen.

Q: How long have you worked for CUSD?

A: One year

Q: Describe your role in Food & Nutrition Services

A: My role at Central Kitchen is preparing cooked and packaged food to be sent out to over 32 schools in our District for breakfast and lunch. I cater pizza parties on request with a team throughout the District to most elementary, middle and high schools.

Q: What is the most rewarding part of your job?

A:The most rewarding part of my job is the excitement of the kids when catering our pizza parties, and serving our fun and exciting meals. Another rewarding thing is the family environment I share with my coworkers. We work together well in a fast-paced, productive environment, supporting each other to create the most quality and nutritious food for our students. We really are like family and enjoy what we do!

Q: Why is it important for students to have nutritious, filling meals everyday?

A: It is important to have a nutritious, filling lunch everyday because children need the nutritional values and vitamins that are found in meals daily for their growing bodies, and mental and physical development. Not all of our students have access to nutritious meals outside of school. We feel really good to know we are serving nutritious meals daily to the kids, which includs fresh fruits and vegetables alongside their main meal for their development and healthy growth.

Q: What was your favorite school lunch when you were a student?

A: Meatloaf with mashed potatoes and gravy. And an oatmeal cookie.

Q: What is your favorite meal to cook at home?

A: Tuscan pasta, with either chicken or salmon and parmesan cheese.

Q: If you could have lunch with one famous person from any time, who would it be and why?

A: Definitely Wolfgang Punk, so I could experience his food expertise, and discover new flavors in mind blowing meals.
