Malcom Elementary holds Souper Bowl canned food drive

Students at John S. Malcom Elementary found a creative way to celebrate the annual Super Bowl — and help others at the same time.

The fifth grade student leaders at Malcom host a “Souper” Bowl canned food drive each year around the time of the National Football League championship.

For the “Souper” Bowl 2021 event (coinciding with Super Bowl LV) the Malcom community contributed 1,809 cans of food that have been donated to a local food bank — surpassing the amount donated in previous years by nearly 100 percent, said Principal Laurie Lowy.

“Our students are making a difference in our world,” Lowy wrote. “I am one proud principal!”
