Hands on learning for Castille Science Day

Grasshoppers, slime, roller coasters, slingshots. No, this isn’t a list of Dennis the Menace’s favorite things. These are just a few of the fun learning modules that Castille students participated in during the annual school-wide Science Day.

On Wednesday, February 12, all grade levels of Castille Elementary took part in science activities during the morning. Each grade had different stations that classes rotated through, with parents and former teachers volunteering to help keep everything running smoothly. Mrs. Giacchino managed the morning’s events, creating the schedule and ensuring each experiment had enough supplies. She even dressed the part as Alberta Einstein.

Students mixed slimy polymers, constructed molecules out of toothpicks and marshmallows, explored the different phases of the moon cycle, built working parachutes, and created bird feeders and self-watering flower pots from recycled materials. There were even owl pellet and grasshopper dissection labs.

See the full list of activities and photos of all of the learning fun below. Keep in mind, it was also crazy hair and hat day, so some students might look a little different.
