Extreme Heat Advisory Guidelines - CUSD Insider

Extreme Heat Advisory Guidelines

SPANISH VERSION

Dear CUSD Families,

With excessive heat forecasts for the end of the week, we wanted to inform you of the protocols in place to keep students and staff as safe and comfortable as possible. CUSD follows guidance from the California Department of PublicHealth in our Extreme Heat Protocols, while monitoring the heat indexes and air quality in local areas during these instances.

CUSD Extreme Heat Protocol includes:

  • Monitoring Heat Conditions- using the Heat Risk Dashboard and WetBulb Globe Temperature Meters to monitor conditions to assess potential risk
  • Modifying Outdoor Activities- modifying or moving outdoor activities (recess, PE, athletics) indoors based on heat conditions
  • Hydration and Rest Breaks- allowing for frequent water breaks and rest, particularly during outdoor activities
  • Heat Illness Awareness- ensuring staff are trained to recognize signs of heat-related illness such as heat stroke and exhaustion
  • Emergency Procedures- implementing plans to respond to heat-related emergencies, including access to cooling stations and medical care

Athletic programs also follow the CIF Heat Illness Prevention and Acclimatization Guidelines for determining safe conditions for practice and games.

We encourage families to pack extra water, provide students sunscreen and hats, and remind them that if they are feeling any effects from the heat, to tell a teacher or staff member at school immediately. As always, we appreciate your partnership in keeping our students safe.

Sharing is caring!
