Capistrano Unified and Rancho Mission Viejo officially broke ground on a brand new school on Friday, May 9. Rienda TK-8 will serve 1,600 students in the RMV area when it opens in the fall of 2027.
CUSD Trustees and administrators, and Rancho Mission Viejo leaders met on Monday morning to ceremoniously begin constructions on the 15-acre school. Two families that live in the Rienda development and currently attend Esencia were also on hand to commemorate the new school they will soon attend. Rienda will be the second CUSD school in Rancho Mission Viejo, joining Esencia which was opened in 2018.
A modern learning environment for modern students, Rienda will feature a number of innovative features:
- Each classroom building has a collaboration lab/space for flexible and breakout learning sessions.
- Each classroom is outfitted with a state-of-the-art teaching wall, an interactive display screen for teaching lessons that is flanked by whiteboards on each side of the screen.
- The classrooms are designed to support wireless access to learning applications.
- The Multi-Purpose Room will have a stage for performing arts, teacher meetings, etc. , with attached locker rooms for the middle school students.
- The Innovation Center will house the library with flexible furniture to adapt to learning lessons of all ages. There is also a large screen and a short throw projector for presentations and trainings that is flanked by 2 whiteboards for additional use during lessons and meetings.
- The campus has numerous outdoor spaces for outdoor learning activities and flexible teaching as well as areas for students to congregate during recess and lunch.
Telacu Construction Management is overseeing the project, with Swinerton Builders serving as general contractor. LPA Architects designed the campus.
