CUSD Board of Trustees To Visit Worksite of Candidate for District Superintendent

May 30 Special Board Meeting Agenda

Capistrano Unified School District Trustees are taking their superintendent selection process to Long Beach on May 30 to meet with staff members familiar with the work of Long Beach Unified School District’s, Dr. Christopher Brown.

Dr. Brown emerged as the top-ranked candidate for the CUSD superintendency after an extensive and competitive recruitment process overseen by Trustees with guidance from Dr. Joseph M. Farley and Dr. Suzette Lovely, consultants with Education Support Services Group, both former superintendents.

Dr. Brown currently serves as Assistant Superintendent for Research, Assessment, and School Improvement in the 70,000-student district. He previously was a high school director, principal, assistant principal, coordinator, dean, science teacher, and track & field coach. His principalship was at the highly acclaimed California Academy of Math and Science, a multidistrict supported magnet school on the campus of California State University, Dominguez Hills.

Trustees are permitted to leave District boundaries to meet with members of the public in another district when considering a candidate for superintendent. Called a “validation visit,” Trustees will meet with a cross-section of Dr. Brown’s colleagues to discuss his overall leadership, expertise, and experience. With a successful validation visit, Dr. Brown’s selection is expected to be approved at an upcoming CUSD regular Board meeting.
