Celebrate National School Breakfast Week in CUSD

As the old adage says- breakfast is the most important meal of the day.  For students, this may be especially true.  According to research, students who eat breakfast have better attendance, maintain a healthy weight, and reach higher levels of academic achievement.

Capistrano Unified School District is participating in National School Breakfast Week from March 2-6, 2026 with the theme of The Quest for School Breakfast. Food and Nutrition Services has been hard at work to create a fun and nutritious menu for students at elementary, middle, and high schools throughout the district. CUSD offers universal free meals as part of the National School Breakfast Program and National School Lunch Program.  This means that students have access to breakfast and lunch at no cost. The National School Breakfast Program provides 15 million meals to hungry children around the country every day.

Mornings may be busy for students, so there are opportunities to eat a complete breakfast at school. Breakfast entrees at CUSD include options with protein, grains, fruit, and white milk. Some highlights include Oikos Greek yogurt, freshly baked bagels, and a nitrate/nitrite-free pepperoni and cheese croissant. Elementary schools offer “second chance” breakfast during morning recess. Middle schools and high schools offer breakfast during passing periods and breaks. Check your school’s bell schedule for more information about when breakfast is served at your student’s school site.

Here are the details of specials being served throughout the district from March 2-6:
