Capistrano Unified to be new Education Vaccination site

Capistrano Unified School District has been identified as the newest distribution site for COVID-19 vaccines.

The Capistrano Unified site will be the fourth Point of Dispensing (POD) site in Orange County, with an estimated start date of Wednesday, Feb. 24, according to the Orange County Department of Education.

The POD is expected to dispense about 500 COVID-19 vaccines per day. Capistrano Unified employees 65 and older and those in Tier 1A will be given priority on the first day to schedule their optional vaccination appointments.

The POD site is a result of advocacy by the Superintendent, CUSD’s Board of Trustees, CUSD’s PTA Legislative Affairs representatives, as well as the Orange County Health Care Agency (OCHCA) and Orange County Department of Education (OCDE), said Chief Communications Officer Ryan Burris.
