Food & Nutrition Services introduced three new elementary lunch entrees and one new breakfast entree this February. You can view pictures of these new items on our Instagram, CapoFood. New items included:
- Beef & Cheese Chalupa on Tostada Shell: seasoned beef with mozzarella and cheddar cheese in a whole grain tostada bowl.
- Extreme Beef & Cheese Taco: a soft tortilla made with whole grain wheat and stone ground corn masa, taco seasoned ground beef, cheese, and very mild green chili sauce.
- Chicken Tender Parmesan Penne: our favorite made with whole muscle, no antibiotic ever chicken tenders paired with whole grain penne pasta, marinara sauce and cheese.
- Chocolate Chip French Toast: whole grain mini French toasts with chocolate chips made with colors and flavors from natural sources and no high fructose corn syrup.
This month school sites enjoyed oranges that were grown less than 50 miles away from Capistrano USD in Perris, CA! Oranges are a great source of vitamin C, an antioxidant that supports the body’s immune system. They are also a good source of potassium, which supports a healthy heart. Did you know all menus served at CUSD schools follow USDA regulations? The USDA is proposing gradual updates to a few aspects of school meals to make them even more nourishing while still ensuring they’re tasty for kids. These changes aren’t happening now. The USDA is asking for public feedback as they develop final standards to best support kids’ health, learning, and growth. Public comments can be submitted through April 10, 2023.
