San Clemente football head coach Jaime Ortiz was named the Los Angeles Chargers Coach of the Week on Wednesday, Sept. 14. Ortiz was the Orange County selection for the weekly award following the Triton’s 23-6 win at No. 7 Corona Del Mar last week. San Clemente avenged a loss to the Sea Kings last year to improve to 4-0 in 2022. Running back Blake Allen ran for 127 yards and a touchdown, and quarterback Broderick Redden had two scores, one in the air and one on the ground.
The LA Chargers Coach of the Week program recognizes high school football coaches “who have made a difference in the lives of their players through leadership, hard work, and a special dedication to their young scholar athletes.” The Coach of the Week nominations are chosen by a selection committee made up of California Interscholastic Federation administrators and others, and voted on by fans.
With the honor, the Chargers Impact Fund will donate $1,000 to the San Clemente athletic department.
San Clemente, ranked seventh in this week’s Orange County Football Top 25, will look for revenge again this week when it hosts No. 5 Edison on Friday. The Tritons lost to the Chargers, 42-0, last season.
