Today, we are highlighting Arlene Badger, Food & Nutrition Services Staff Secretary in the Central Kitchen.
Q: How long have you worked for CUSD?
A: 20 years
Q: Describe your role in Food & Nutrition Services
A: I manage our FNS office. Taking care of our FNS employees, their sites, the school children and their families. I answer questions about our lunch program and emphasize the dedication of our FNS employees in serving a nutritional balance meal to their child everyday.
Q: What is the most rewarding part of your job?
A: Watching our lunch program grow and seeing the hard work our FNS employees apply to their students and sites. Appreciating when a parent calls to say positive things about our staff, meals and program.
Q: Why is it important for students to have nutritious, filling meals everyday?
A: My son graduated from CUSD, soI know how important it is for students to have a good meal. A nutritious meal enhances a student’s thinking, studying, participating in school events, their physical and mental well being.
Q: What was your favorite school lunch when you were a student?
A: Boy, that’s a long time ago! Thanksgiving meal.
Q: What is your favorite meal to cook at home?
A: Homemade shrimp scampi, my husband makes it.
Q: If you could have lunch with one famous person from any time, who would it be and why?
A: Eleanor Roosevelt, she was a strong person who believed in people. A gifted woman who listened; as well as, spoke about community and country. She believed in education, stressing there were no boundaries; therefore, encouraging young people to think beyond.
