Dear CUSD Students, Families, and Employees,
Welcome back to school! The first day is always a mixture of excitement and anticipation, but I hope you had a smooth, fun, and happy beginning to the new school year.
The Board of Trustees, District staff and faculty are focused as always on providing a world-class education for all of our students at all levels. With that in mind, our goals for the 2025-26 school year remain steadfast:
- To increase CUSD’s overall ELA and Math achievement and eliminate performance gaps between student demographic subgroups as identified by race/ethnicity, language ability, socioeconomic status, and ability.
- To increase the students’ sense of connectedness and reported feelings of safety in their school communities.
- To create systems of two-way engagement with the CUSD community, and to center sites as the main providers of community information and support throughout CUSD. To build community trust in CUSD decisions through ongoing dialogue and a commitment to transparency.
- Provide world class facilities and programs while maintaining the District’s fiscal health.
We will achieve these goals through a variety of ways. A focus on elementary students learning to read by third grade to enable growth in all subjects. Providing dual enrollment and college and career prep for secondary students. Creating programs, clubs and activities to foster connectedness among students. Hosting coffee chats, parent seminars and workshops to maintain a clear line of communication with families. Finally, to continue to make smart investments in facilities (leveraging state matching funds) while maintaining a budget that provides a healthy stability and long-term outlook.
I look forward to seeing you when I am visiting school sites or at the family engagement meetings scheduled throughout the year. This is my third first day of school in CUSD, and I couldn’t be happier to be a part of this District or more excited for what our students will achieve this year.
Sincerely,
Dr. Chris Brown
Superintendent
