School Lunch Hero Spotlight: Amy Kosareff

In celebration of National School Lunch Hero Day (May 5), CUSD Insider is showcasing profiles of some of the super food & nutrition services employees we have throughout the District.

Today, we are highlighting Amy Kosareff, Food Service Professional, Del Obispo Elementary.

Q: How long have you worked for CUSD?

A: Two years in November

Q: Describe your role in Food & Nutrition Services

A: Cashier, warming food, ordering food and fruits, keeping a clean and safe kitchen, including always using food safety protocols, inventory and the list goes on. I added singing a good morning song and birthday songs.

Q: What is the most rewarding part of your job?

A:Working with children has truly made a me a better person. If the children walk away from the cafeteria with smile, I know I’m doing a good job and that is my ultimate reward.

Q: Why is it important for students to have nutritious, filling meals everyday?

A: I strongly believe that a healthy nutrition pays off with healthier, happier and more focused children.

Q: What was your favorite school lunch when you were a student?

A: Chalupa. I still talk about how delicious it was.

Q: What is your favorite meal to cook at home?

A: I love making salads. You can do so many different variations of it. One day I can use chicken the next day I can change it up with shrimp. I love adding fruits and veggies and even nuts. Really I just use what I have at home at the moment. My current favorite is lettuce, cucumbers, sweet potato, avocado, garbanzo beans, feta cheese, chicken breast with a heavy drizzle of low fat vinaigrette dressing.

Q: If you could have lunch with one famous person from any time, who would it be and why?

A: Pele! Soccer is life for my family. My son’s dream is to play soccer professionally. We admire his legacy as an athlete and as a person.
