Reilly unveils new Connections Sensory Garden for student exploration

OCDE NEWSROOM GRAND OPENING VIDEO

Reilly students and faculty gathered on the playground Wednesday morning to officially open a new Connections Sensory Garden on campus. The garden boxes  feature unique plans and vegetables, including Meyer lemon, thornless backberry and Haku-Botan white pomegranate, as well as a a sensory sandbox and soil exploration plot. The space serves as a hands-on learning environment to inform students about nature and biology. While created in partnership with the Orange County Department of Education for the Connections program, the garden will be accessible to all Reilly students.

OCDE’s Connections program operates at 13 school sites throughout Orange County, serving students with the most significant disabilities. Offering a low student-to-staff ratio in structured classroom settings, Connections provides access to state standards with instruction that is customized to meet each student’s unique needs. Reilly has had a Connections program on campus since 1990.
