Food & Nutrition Services: March Update

Did your student try any of the organically grown and/or local produce on CUSD school menus this March?

  • Strawberries from Better Produce grown in Santa Maria, CA (all sites, week of March 4).
  • Organic Minneola Tangelos from Dickinson Farms grown in Escondido  (elementary sites, week of March 4).
  • Kiwis from Brandt Farm Inc. grown in Fresno (elementary sites, week of March 11).
  • Gold Nugget Mandarins from V4 Ranch grown in North San Diego County (elementary sites, week of March 25).

Farm to School Highlight: Gold Nugget Mandarins

Our Gold Nugget Mandarins were grown at V4 Ranch in North San Diego County. V4 Ranch is owned by Vidya Syrvinaston. She and her husband came to America from India where their families used to grow mangos. They grow Organic Gold Nugget Mandarins, Cara Cara Navels, and Dragonfruit. They love the land and continuing their family’s legacy of farming with their children.

In April, all middle school sites will have Grass Fed Regenerative Beef Pretzel Dogs available for a limited time at lunch the week of April 8. The pretzel bun is baked fresh and locally from Sadie Rose Baking Co. located in Oceanside. The hot dog is a grass fed beef hot dog from Cream Co Meats. Cream Co Meats is an Oakland butchery that distributes meat from over 20 sustainable, regenerative and family-owned farms.
