CUSD cross country teams finish the season strong

The 2025 CIF cross country season came to a close in November, with several CUSD teams placing high in regional and state competition. San Clemente led the way with top-10 finishes for both the boys and girls teams at the CIF-Southern Section Championships and the CIF State Championships. Oliver Hunter continued the tradition of elite boy’s performers at Dana Hills, winning individual titles in both races.

The CIF-Southern Section Championships were held at Mt San Antonio College on Nov. 22. The San Clemente boys finished 2nd in the Division 1 race, with Aliso Niguel in 11th place and San Juan Hills in 14th. Tesoro came in 11th place in Division 2. Dana Hills took 13th place in Division 3, with Hunter winning the individual title by one-tenth of a second (14:20.7). He became the fourth-consecutive Dolphin to win that race, after Evan Noonan won three to end his career.

In the girls competition, San Clemente finished in fourth place in Division 1, followed by Aliso Niguel in 10th place. Tesoro claimed third place in Division 3.

The CIF State Championships were held in Clovis on Nov. 29. San Clemente had another strong showing in Division 1, with the boys placing second and the girls placing seventh. The Tesoro girls also came in seventh place in the Division 2 race. Hunter won the individual title in Division 3 at 14:55.3, which was the ninth-best time overall across the five divisions and the seventh-best ever in Division 3.
