Don Juan Avila Elementary School celebrated its 25th anniversary with a red, white and blue party only the Eagles could throw. For the flag ceremony on April 4, the blacktop was filled with the entire student body and hundreds of distinguished guests and family members.
The ceremony included a retrospective walk through DJAES history, as former administrators, teachers and student council members spoke about their favorite memories of their time on campus. Trustee Krista Castellanos, who represents Area 5, and Aliso Viejo Mayor Tiffany Ackley also spoke of the impact the school has had on the city. Principal Richard Freda closed out the ceremony by announcing the school would bury a time capsule to be opened on the 50th anniversary.
Following the ceremony, guests were invited for refreshments in the newly created DJAES Hall of Fame. Students in Mrs. Larwood’s class made displays from each of DJAES school years, with class photos and memorable moments from that year.
Congratulations DJAES! Here’s to 25 more great years!
