Palisades Elementary School held a Welcome Back Waves BBQ on Friday to help prepare families for the new school year. School volunteer groups, like the PTA, Room Parent Program and Parent Patrol, shared information and had sing-ups. Students and parents could purchase spirit wear, including water bottles and t-shirts that could be customized and tie-dyed. The City of Dana Point provided a Tier-1 Volunteer finger printing station, allowing parents to receive the clearance for volunteering on campus during the year. The Palisades Foundation funded the initiative to give parents easy and free access.
CUSD Board Clerk Amy Hanacek supplied hamburgers and hot dogs for a family barbecue, with families chipping in other items to fill out the potluck. Principal Rebecca Bailey held a parent information session in the MPR while students played on the playground and had their faces painted by former Wave students. The California Highway Patrol as also on hand to share school safety tips.
