CUSD AI Institute empowers technology innovators

With the first day of school one week away, teachers spend their days preparing for the upcoming school year. While that usually consists of organizing their classrooms, meeting with colleagues and administrators and preparing lesson plans, a select group of teachers spent a day learning about new digital tools to keep them on the forefront of modern education.

On Tuesday, August 12, the CUSD Ed Tech team hosted an AI Institute for 100 elementary and 100 secondary teachers at the Ed Center. The event marked the beginning of a year-long professional learning institute designed to empower educators with cutting-edge tools and strategies to enhance teaching and learning. Participation was selective; teachers applied and committed to engaging in this sustained professional development opportunity. The 200 teachers represent roughly 10 percent of the CUSD roster.

The day began with a keynote presentation from Wes Krisel, the AI Lead Educator with the Orange County Department of Education.

Wes Krisel from OCDE challenged common misconceptions about AI and shared benefits for educators in his keynote

The CUSD Ed Tech team presented the State of AI in CUSD, highlighting the new AI Guiding Practices, program expectations and digital citizenship.

The seminar closed with presentations by Magic School AI and Brisk Teaching, sharing how their tools can help teachers prep and assess more efficiently.
